As of March 2022, the Virtual Doctors service is in use in 235 health facilities across 41 districts and 6 provinces, serving a population of over 3.5 million people. We are the largest non commercial telemedicine provider in Zambia.
At the end of 2018 we launched a pilot in Malawi and have since secured a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Health, which will dictate the next stage of this expansion of our service.
Listed below under each province are the Districts where the our telemedicine service is in use.
If you have any questions about a specific district and its facilities please contact us.
District Hospitals: These are government health facilities with almost a full capacity of equipment. This type of facility is supposed to have doctors, lab capabilities, a full range of medications, this is the main referral centre for each district.
Mission Hospitals: These are more like District Hospitals but funded or managed by missionaries or churches.
Zonal Referral Centres: This type of Health Centre has a high patient capacity. It can also be a referral centre in any given area. So, patients might be referred from a to Zonal Health Centre before referring them to hospitals.
Rural Health Centres: This is slightly smaller than a Zonal HC. Here, they may have more than one Clinical Officer. Equipment will be minimal, with access to basic medications.
Health Posts: This is smallest facility, maybe just with one Clinical Officer or Health Care Worker. Equipment will be minimal, with access to basic medications.
