Volunteer for the Virtual Doctors

1-12 June is Volunteers Week, the annual celebration of the 21 million people who volunteer in the UK and which contributes an estimated £23.9bn to the UK economy.

At the Virtual Doctors we are lucky to have volunteers giving their time and talents to essential areas of our organisation, but we can't do what we need to without funding to enable our work. We need your help!

No matter what skills and experience you have, or how much time you have to give, your support will make a difference.

The Virtual Doctors service is funded entirely by our supporters' generous donations and gifts, so we especially welcome those with an interest in fundraising.

Sam is part of a team who have been volunteering for us for a year. She says, "Timely medical attention is something we take for granted in the UK - until you have it brought to your attention just how lucky we are.

We all feel proud to be able to use the skills from our day jobs on a project which is about directly helping people and, ultimately, saving lives. We take that responsibility really seriously."

Poster competition

We are delighted to announce that our Medical Director, Dr Fran Fieldhouse, has been selected as a finalist in this year's 'Doctors as Volunteers' poster competition organised by the British Medical Association (BMA).

The BMA believes volunteering gives doctors the opportunity to gain new skills and approaches that can be applied to their work in the health service.

Fran says, "High quality primary healthcare is often overlooked, yet it has a huge impact on the development of a nation. I am endlessly humbled by how the Clinical Officers care for so many patients, whilst physically and professionally isolated."

Well done Fran, and very many thanks to the design team at Cohn & Wolfe for their support in designing the poster (which will be displayed at the BMA conference in Belfast next month).
